Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as her government achieved a historical milestone by becoming the longest continuously serving administration in Italy. In his message, Erdoğan lauded Meloni’s accomplishment and expressed optimism about the growing cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy.
Meloni’s administration reached a significant benchmark with 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second term from 2001 to 2005. Since assuming office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has fostered strong ties with Erdoğan, with ongoing dialogues focusing on both bilateral and regional issues.
Under their leadership, Türkiye and Italy have worked collaboratively to enhance their partnership in various sectors including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. The countries have also coordinated efforts on important regional issues such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine.
The two leaders co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome in April 2025, where numerous agreements were signed to bolster their strategic and economic ties. Their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations was further underscored during their most recent meeting at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed their plans to advance trade, mutual investment, and defense cooperation.
