Türkiye is doubling down on efforts to enhance its maritime security, defense capabilities, and technological self-sufficiency, as emphasized by senior officials at the conclusion of Teknofest Blue Homeland. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz highlighted the growing significance of safeguarding Türkiye’s maritime interests, known as the “Blue Homeland,” amid rising geopolitical tensions and competition over key technologies, energy resources, and trade routes.
The event, held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, featured an impressive display of 37 vessels and four aircraft, including notable assets such as the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and the Murat Reis submarine. Attendees also got a closer look at domestically developed unmanned maritime systems, showcasing Türkiye’s advancements in this field.
Yılmaz underscored Türkiye’s expanding capabilities in integrating manned and unmanned platforms, leveraging artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and secure communications. He highlighted the country’s defense industry localization rate, which has surpassed 80%, as a testament to Türkiye’s ambition to solidify its standing among the leading global defense exporters.
Teknofest Blue Homeland not only served as a platform to demonstrate military prowess but also emphasized the nurturing of future talent. The event included competitions focusing on unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies, aiming to inspire young engineers and innovators to contribute to advances in these critical areas.
