Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has assured investors of economic stability and protection amid an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the nation’s capital markets. In a decisive move to address these concerns, Erdoğan announced the formation of a fully authorized board led by the vice president to oversee the liquidation of funds impacted by the investigation. Additionally, the State Supervisory Council has been instructed to engage in the process.
The Capital Markets Board has taken significant steps by ordering several investment funds managed by seven portfolio management companies to cease trading and initiating the liquidation of some funds. These actions are aimed at safeguarding investors as authorities delve into the suspected irregularities.
As part of the judicial response, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the investigations. Prosecutors are currently examining serious allegations, including fraud, money laundering, and violations of capital markets laws. Erdoğan emphasized that the government would hold accountable those responsible for any misconduct, while ensuring that the investigation does not jeopardize Türkiye’s financial system as a whole.
Erdoğan reassured the public that the issues identified are confined to a specific segment of the fund market and that necessary measures are being implemented to maintain financial stability. He underscored the commitment of Turkish institutions to protect the interests of investors and uphold the integrity of the country’s financial markets.
