Erdoğan Affirms Stability of Türkiye’s Capital Markets Amid Fund Investigation

by admin477351

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asserted that Türkiye’s capital markets remain robust, despite recent challenges in the investment fund sector, which he described as isolated incidents not threatening the broader financial system. Speaking in Ankara following a Cabinet meeting, Erdoğan emphasized that the government is actively managing the situation by taking measures to ensure financial stability and protect investors.

Erdoğan highlighted that the issue is confined to a specific segment of the fund market, and authorities are implementing steps to manage the liquidation of impacted funds effectively. He assured that the government is committed to preventing similar problems in the future and pledged to pursue legal action against individuals responsible for destabilizing market activities.

The concerns arose after authorities launched investigations into suspected share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks earlier this month. These developments have led to losses and prompted increased redemption pressure on some investment funds.

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek confirmed that legal proceedings are ongoing against those involved in the alleged manipulations. He also stated that measures to uphold financial stability will continue to be enforced.

In response to the situation, Erdoğan plans to meet with economic officials and other relevant institutions to further assess the condition of the fund market and discuss additional preventive measures.
