Australia secured a spot in the penultimate round of the Davis Cup by defeating Poland 3-1 in Brisbane, highlighted by Alex de Minaur’s decisive win. De Minaur, ranked ninth in the world, clinched the victory for Australia with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over Kamil Majchrzak at Pat Rafter Arena.

The Australian team, bolstered by de Minaur’s strong form, had previously gained momentum through an impressive doubles performance. Max Purcell and Rinky Hijikata overcame Poland’s Jan Zielinski and Karol Drzewiecki with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory, setting the stage for de Minaur’s final singles match.

Purcell’s powerful returns and two aces were crucial in the first-set tiebreak, allowing Australia to establish an early lead. Hijikata maintained stability with his serve, contributing to the only service break of the match in the second set, which Australia capitalized on to secure the win.

Australia’s victory was essential following a previous loss to Ecuador, which had increased the pressure on the team to perform against Poland. The triumph in Brisbane ensures Australia will compete in a qualifying round next year, with the aim of earning a place in the 2027 Davis Cup Finals in Italy.
