Erdoğan Alerts: Iran Conflict Severely Impacting Global Economic Stability

by admin477351

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has highlighted the far-reaching impact of the Iran war, emphasizing that no nation is immune to the ripple effects of crises in today’s interconnected world. He pointed out that the conflict’s economic and political repercussions are manifesting globally, with inflation, supply chain issues, and energy market volatility spreading across continents. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan underscored that globalization and economic interdependence mean regional conflicts have worldwide implications.

Erdoğan illustrated how events in the Middle East can have significant ramifications elsewhere, saying, “When a country in the Middle East sneezes today, a country in Latin America or Asia can easily catch a cold.” He described the uncertainty following the February 28 attacks on Iran as a complex crisis affecting global stability, citing ongoing volatility in fuel prices, rising inflation, and persistent bottlenecks in the Strait of Hormuz as indicators of increasing global fragility.

The Turkish president warned of the unpredictable scale of destruction resulting from these economic shockwaves and criticized what he termed a profiteering system driven by speculation and market manipulation. He accused a small group of capitalists of enriching themselves at the expense of billions worldwide, while middle- and lower-income families face diminishing purchasing power and escalating living costs. Erdoğan remarked that the Iran war has created an economy with destructive effects on global economic prosperity, highlighting the disparity between those who benefit from instability and those who suffer from it.

Domestically, Erdoğan criticized unjustified price increases in Türkiye, noting that some pricing practices could not be explained solely by production or transportation costs, despite the country’s low energy input costs. He assured that authorities would continue to monitor and address opportunistic pricing, urging businesses to contribute to efforts aimed at safeguarding market stability and consumer protection.

Additionally, Erdoğan condemned Israel’s attacks, asserting that they would not hinder international efforts for justice and solidarity with the Palestinian people. He described Israel’s actions against the Global Sumud Flotilla as “piracy” and “banditry,” denouncing the attack on the aid flotilla, which carried citizens from 40 different countries, as an affront to those he called “voyagers of hope.”
