Zelensky Says US Establishes June Target as Miami Emerges as Peace Broker Hub

by admin477351

The United States has proposed hosting Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Miami next week while setting a June deadline for ending the nearly four-year conflict, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The development signals heightened American involvement in mediating the war.
In remarks to reporters made public early Saturday, Zelensky revealed that this would be the first time the US has offered to host direct negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian teams on American territory. The proposal to use Miami as a venue demonstrates Washington’s willingness to provide neutral ground for the adversaries. According to Zelensky, American officials have expressed their desire to resolve the conflict by June of this year.
These forthcoming talks would represent the third round of US-mediated negotiations, following two previous sessions in Abu Dhabi that began in January. The Abu Dhabi meetings produced one significant achievement—a major prisoner exchange—but made no progress on resolving territorial disputes. Russia presently occupies roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory and is demanding both recognition of this occupation and additional territorial control in the eastern Donetsk region.
Ukraine has consistently and categorically opposed any territorial concessions, viewing them as violations of sovereignty that would reward military aggression. Moscow has declared its territorial conditions essential to any peace agreement and has warned it will pursue military options if negotiations do not yield favorable territorial outcomes. This impasse over borders and territorial control remains the primary challenge facing peace efforts.
The diplomatic push continues against a backdrop of ongoing violence. Zelensky announced on Saturday that Russian forces had attacked facilities critical to Ukraine’s nuclear power plant operations during the previous night. The strikes forced multiple nuclear reactor units to reduce their power output, with one reactor experiencing an automatic emergency shutdown. Zelensky denounced the attacks as terrorism unprecedented in scale and urged Russia to demonstrate commitment to the peace process by halting strikes on essential civilian infrastructure.
