Europe Faces Greatest Security Threat Since World War II, Warns Danish Prime Minister

by admin477351

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that Europe is facing its “most difficult and dangerous situation” since the end of World War II. Speaking at an EU summit in Copenhagen, she urged European unity against growing threats from Russia, citing a wave of drone incursions and sabotage incidents that reflect a “Russian hybrid war” spreading across the continent.
The summit, focused on strengthening Europe’s defense readiness by 2030, discussed coordinated measures such as a “drone wall” and enhanced surveillance systems to protect EU borders. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for collective vigilance, noting recurring patterns of Russian provocations in European airspace.
Denmark, a strong supporter of Ukraine, is leading calls for a rearmed and coordinated European defense network. Recent incidents, including unidentified drones over Danish airports, have prompted NATO allies such as Germany, Sweden, and France to send surveillance support.
Leaders also debated the use of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s reconstruction, a proposal gaining traction despite legal and financial concerns among several EU member states. The discussions underscored a growing sense of urgency for Europe to strengthen its military and financial defenses against escalating regional threats.
